SESSION 7: How to be a good citizen (FINAL)
SESSION 7 - How to be a good citizen
Today is the last class of this learning situation. That's why the children will be informed that they have completed all the tasks assigned by the European Commission and that the final challenge will be set by the citizens.
Message from the European Commission:
"Congratulations! We must tell you that all members of the European Commission are very proud and grateful for the work you have done. We believe that you are now fully qualified to be part of our team. However, citizens also want to make sure that, in addition to having a lot of knowledge about our planet, you are also good citizens.
That is why we have created a final activity that, when you complete it, you will have met all the requirements to be part of our commission. We have entrusted your teacher with the task of explaining the activity to you.
Good luck! We are confident that you will succeed."
The objetives to work on this session are:
- 1.1. Implement norms of citizen coexistence,
- 1.3. Know the role of the human being in the environment
In the initial 15 minutes, the message will be showcased, accompanied by an activity designed to grasp the functionality of the Bee-Boots. Subsequently, for the ensuing 30 minutes, the children will actively participate in the assigned activity. Finally, the last 10 minutes will be dedicated to delivering the concluding message from the European Commission and presenting the students with their individual diplomas.
LESSON 7
In the first part of the session, the teacher will display the message from the European Commission. Afterward, the following activity will be conducted for the children to learn how to use the Bee-Boots. Children will work with their group and make decisions to move the Bee-Boot around the board. Together they will decide the direction to follow, such as moving forward, going straight, turning right or turning left. So that everyone has a chance to move the Bee-Boot, in each round a child will give the Bee-Boot instructions.
The Bee-Boot has arrows with 4 directions on the top (see image). If our intention is to go straight two squares and then turn left, we will have to place the robot in the direction we want and hit the arrow twice, in this case green, and then the blue arrow.

In the second part of the session, groups will be divided folllowing the same format as the previous sessions. There will be a map that represents a city with signals, streets, and more. A copy of this map will be given to each group of students as well as a Bee-Boot.
Now the children will have to conduct the Bee-Boots through the streets stopping in every traffic light, crosswalks, and traffic signals. Each stop will represent a question. When they reach them, they will have to answer a question related to how to become a good citizen.
We should remember that these are questions to acquire knowledge and awarness of this topic and it is not intended just to know how to drive the Bee-Boot. Of course that it is necessary to know how to use it to reach the signs, but it is not the main purpose of the activity.
This questions are some that we are going to use in the map of the city:
1. What does it mean to be a good friend to others in your school or neighborhood?
2. How can you show kindness and help someone who is feeling sad or lonely?
3. Why is it important to listen to your teachers and follow school rules?
4. How can you take care of the environment by reducing waste and recycling?
5. What does it mean to be respectful to adults and your peers?
6. How can you be a good helper at home and contribute to your family?
7. Why is it important to share and take turns with your friends?
8. What are some ways you can be responsible for your belongings and keep your living space tidy?
9. How can you include others who may feel left out during playtime or activities?
10. Why is it important to tell the truth and be honest in your words and actions?
11. How can you be a good team player when working on a group project or playing a game?
